Sydney to Hobart Race

Sydney to Hobart race.

The race is finished and i had a fantastic experience. We started just outside Sydney Operahouse with loads of spectators and turists around the start line.
The start whent smooth, we did an okey start in the middle of the group, but we picked it up when we turned the first mark and got wind from approximately 100 degrees.
Which is enough for hoisting the spinnaker on a boat like Wasabi. After 15 houers we where in front on ouer devision and just enjoyed the sailing.
Everything whent as pland untill we hited a front which gave us 35 knots on the nose. This happend so fast and we had some problems getting the spinnaker down, but got it down without damage, after a couple of minutes.
It was worse with the main sail since it hit the spreders and got damaged, and we lost around 2 houers repearing it.
The Base Strait was quiet this year and we dident have any big problemes, just a little sea sickness.

When we sailed along the coast of Tasmania the wind got unstable and we had some periodes with no wind and just drifting in the current. We lost ouer lead to a bigger boat at this area and ended in second place in ouer devision. There was alot of spectators at the finish line and every boat got applouse when finishing. This was a special moment for me and the crew.

After a couple of days in Tasmania we where suposed to do the delivery back to Sydney but because of a terrible wind window we agreed to let the boat be in Tassi untill the weather got bether.

These pictures is from the race and what i saw.

Hobart

The hobart race is completed, it's one of my best sailing experiences so far. We have been a cupal of days in hobart now and are ready to get this boat home without destroying anything, we have been waiting for weather to tur to the south and it looks like we got it now. I will write about the experience when I arrive to sydney and upload some pictures

The blue arrow points to Wasabi's track.

After ~1d 17h Wasabi has a 5 h lead in her class!

On picture you can see our boat Wasabi with a lilac color in the sail, we are no 1! (Click 'Read more' to get a bigger picture)
It is of course a bit confusing for non sailors, we are boat no 3 counted from south, but we sail with handicap and total time is calculated. So even if we are behind other boats in our class we hold the first place.

We wait for next tack.... always interesting, ref. the other tacks we have taken.

From Google Earth 1 d 6 h

Whole fleet close to shore
